February is the month of love, and we just love our winter birds! From Waxwings to Barn owls, the fabulous robin, and even a Glossy Ibis, this month we have seen it all.
Unfortunately, our judges can only pick one winner, a task that was extremely difficult this month as we received so many amazing entries.
We are delighted to announce that the winner of February’s photography competition is … Ian Bonnell!

We were absolutely blown away by this beautiful blue tit photo! The way Ian photographed the texture and vibrant colour of this little birds’ fine hairs in such great detail, captivated our judges. We loved the way that he captured the bird perched, with its feet and beak creating a heart, perfect for Valentine’s Day and making it the perfect winner for this month!
Michael Peters
Second place goes to Michael Peters with his wonderful photograph titled ‘Arriving for Lunch’. Our judges loved the way that he captured the angle of the wings as the duck takes off from the water. The vibrant colours of this Shelduck are portrayed beautifully in this picture.
Craig Smith
Have you ever seen a Glossy Ibis? Craig Smith hit the jackpot when he managed to capture this spectacular rare bird in Lancashire, claiming third place with this fantastic photograph titled, ‘Purple Delight’. This prehistoric looking bird is fantastic! The way that Craig has capture the flight of this magnificent bird as it soars across the sky, really impressed our judges.

March’s competition is currently open and has the theme of ‘Signs of Spring’. As per 2021 rule changes, photographs can be taken anywhere in the Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside region and are not limited to Lancashire Wildlife Trust nature reserves.
