Supporter Story - Inflexion Foundation

Helena Dolby for Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust

As we progress towards our £300,000 appeal target, our team share the stories of how we are using generous donations we have already received to bring back our lost wildlife, create nature recovery networks, put nature at the heart of communities and tackle the climate emergency as part of our efforts to Step up for Wildlife.

We are delighted to be able to share how the first £50,000 of our Step up for Wildlife Appeal will be invested into nature thanks to our generous donors at the Inflexion Foundation.

The Inflexion Foundation strives to enhance the prospects of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and to protect the environment.  Achieving this through education, sports, the arts and conservation to improve prospects for a brighter future.

We are just one of the 59 charities that The Inflexion Foundation have supported with their charitable donations. Our colleagues at London Wildlife Trust have also been grateful recipients of the Inflexion Foundation fund - you can read more about their story here.

Inflexion have committed to donating £150,000 to The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester & North Merseyside over the next three years.

With these funds we have already set to work investing into the local landscape in Greater Manchester.  We were joined earlier in the year at Cutacre nature reserve by local volunteers and our friends from St George's Primary School Eco Club who offered their time to create, restore and enhance over 90 meters of hedgerow habitat.

This is the first step in the three year plan to create a more resilient and interconnected landscape across Cutacre, with hopes of supporting the endangered grey partridge populations in the area. We will be conducting an annual Common Bird Census survey to monitor the impact the ongoing work on site.

This supports our #SUFW appeal's goals of bringing back our lost wildlife and creating a nature recovery network for not just grey partridge, but for an array of roosting birds along with hedgehogs, harvest mice, and even foraging bats.

But that's not all..

The second phase of the Inflexion Foundation appeal donation will be put in motion later this year within our Education Team delivering outreach programmes to schools that otherwise would not have been able to engage with our services without this incredible appeal gift.

Currently our nature based education sessions are seasonal, delivered during the spring and summer months. Our appeal donation will allow for an additional seventy sessions each year, making our valuable programme run consistently throughout the year.

We will be able to nurture up to 2,100 young minds through these sessions as well as provide training for 20 teachers and support staff to empower them to make the most of their school grounds and local greenspaces for nature based activities.

Through this initiative, LWT envisions opening the doors of opportunity to the individuals who need them the most, fostering connections with wildlife and nature, and nurturing the region's young minds aligning perfectly with our #SUFW appeal goal to put nature at the heart of communities.

We will be providing updates as we work closer with both the Cutacre and the Education teams across Greater Manchester.

Thank you Inflexion Foundation!

Will you help us step up for wildlife?
