Photography Competition – October 2024

The results are in for October’s photo competition and the winners this month are incredible

This month’s theme was all about the magic of the fungi kingdom under the theme of ‘Fabulous Fungi’.

Found in the darkest depths of the forest floor or thriving on the side of trees, the varieties of fungi that can be found on your autumnal walks are amazing. Including classics such as fly agaric, bonnets and sulphur tufts, the entries we have received this month have been incredible!

Unfortunately, there can be only one winner, a decision that was incredible hard this month due to the amazing quality of images we have received.

The winner of October’s photography competition is … Daryl Hopcroft!

the future is bright, the future is orange

Taken in yarrow valley wood this photograph is beautiful. We were mesmerized by the contrast between the green moss-covered trunk and the vibrant orange of this fungi cluster. Our Judges loved the way that this photograph captures the dampness and light of the environment, illuminating and creating an almost molten glass sheen to these fabulous fungi.

Fungi - Dewdrop Bonnet

Jamie Fendt 

Jamie Fendt takes home second place with his fantastic Dewdrop Bonnet. This image is very pleasing to the eye! From the closeness of the rich green moss to the contrast of the fantastic dewdrop covered singular bonnet, our judges loved the whole composition of this photograph.

Fungi - Sulphur Tufts

Ian Bonnell 

Finally, Ian Bonnell came in third place with these wonderful cascading Sulphur Tufts. Our judges loved the detail captured within this photograph and how almost the entire image is filled with fungi. The distinct golden hues of the sulphur tufts are sure to brighten up anyone’s woodland walk.

November’s competition is currently open and has the theme of ‘Shades of Autumn'. As per 2021 rule changes, photographs can be taken anywhere in the Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside region and are not limited to Lancashire Wildlife Trust nature reserves.
