What to see and do in September
September is here, bringing with it cooler weather and shorter days - but this won't stop us making the most of the great outdoors and getting out into nature! Here are some of our top suggestions for things to see and do this month.
Toddle Together through Brockholes
Toddle Together returns on Thursday 5th September. If you enjoy exploring Brockholes with your little ones, why not join us for our Toddle Together session? A one hour walk around the reserve on pram friendly paths, these sessions are aimed at toddlers and preschoolers.
Take a stroll in autumnal woodlands
Autumn is a time of transformation in our woodlands, as the leaves begin to change to vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red. A clear early autumn day is the perfect opportunity to take a stroll through the woods and enjoy the vibrant colours of the season.
Join our Wildflower Year Guided Walk
Join our Guided Walk Leaders for a fascinating insight into the flora of Brockholes Nature Reserve and how it changes over the year. We will also cover the folklore associated with our wildflowers, trees and fungi. The walk is at a gentle pace, with lots of stopping to look at species!
Learn all about zooplankton!
Join the North Lancashire Wildlife Group for a fascinating talk in Torrisholme near Morecambe, where you can learn all about the world of zooplankton - some of the most amazing and diverse aquatic organisms that you can barely see! Marine biologist, Mark Woombs, takes us from single-celled organisms to possibly the longest animal in the world, which lives in Morecambe Bay. Anyone who enjoys nature is welcome.
Autumn's spectacle - bird migration
It’s all change in the bird world! As autumn wraps us in a chilly blanket, many species start to leave the UK for warmer shores and are replaced by other migrant birds seeking solace from colder winters overseas. Learn all about who's coming and going at this time of year, and keep your eye out for some new visitors!
Learn all about the wonderful world of fungi
Look ahead to our ever-popular Family Fungus Day which is coming up on 5th October! Enjoy a fungi foray around Mere Sands Wood, as you hunt for marvellous mushrooms. The North West Fungus Group will be present on the day to lead our walks and share their wealth of knowledge.
