On the frost day of Christmas
Peatlands birding legend Dave Steel begins his 12 Days of Christmas with some wonderful wildlife on a cold and icy Christmas Day.
Frost, ice and a blue sky were the welcoming committee that I found out on the LWT Little Woolden Moss Nature reserve, which seemed to quietly accept that today most of its wildlife would be busy finding food and had no time to pose for my camera.
A pair of bullfinch found some food on some weed stems, a great black-backed gull dwarfed some black-headed gulls as they skated about some frozen water, a buzzard played statues as it stood out in the sunshine and the ice scribbled some patterns on a puddle.
