September Photography Competition

September began with a splendid burst of late summer sun and granted us one final splash of delightful colour. However, as the month progressed and autumn started to tighten its grip, we have seen our reserves transform into a glorious landscape of autumnal tones. In turn we have received a marvellous selection of images which wonderfully reflect the diverse natural beauty of our nature reserves.

This month’s photography competition theme was 'Reserve Views', and we received a breath-taking selection of remarkable photographs. The images demonstrate the natural beauty at all of our nature reserves and capture the outstanding work done by our diligent conservation team and fabulous volunteers. We're delighted that so many people are continuing to appreciate nature and get involved in our photography competition.

Out of 60 marvellous entries, and after much deliberation, Sam Wilkinson’s ‘Natural Health Service' - taken at Freshfield Dune Heath Nature Reserve - was awarded first place.

Our judge commented that:

‘This photo beautifully demonstrates the sensational natural landscape at Freshfield Dune Heath.’

Our judge also acknowledged the important message contained within this image and its delightful title, as they stated that it, "Purposefully highlights the incredible value of wild spaces for both our health and wellbeing."

Stephanie Latham

In second place is Stephanie Latham’s ‘Secret Gardens’ taken at Foxhill Bank Nature Reserve. Our judge absolutely adored this image, stating that "The depth and composition are spectacular. In addition, this photo really captures the tranquility and calming effect of nature."

Woodland Path

Sue Falcon

In third place is Sue Falcon’s ‘Woodland Path’ taken at Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve. Our judge noted that this image, "Beautifully depicts the enchanting natural vista present at Mere Sands Wood and rather wonderfully conveys the important message that nature is and always should be accessible to absolutely everyone."

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winner’s photos will be displayed at our visitor centres for everyone to see.

October's competition is currently open and has the theme of 'Woodland Fungi'. As long as the photo has been taken at one of our nature reserves, you can enter whatever image you like, and with 38 nature reserves to choose from, what are you waiting for?
