Photography Competition Results - April 2025

Steve Grice

Take a look at our photography competition winners for April.

April is a wonderful time of year. As the days begin to get longer, and we welcome the warmer temperatures with open arms, we see the wonders of nature begin to come alive again after their winter slumber.

Our theme for April was ‘Wetlands and Waterways’ and the entries we received this month are incredible! From the calm, tranquil waters of Mere Sands Wood to the brilliant wildlife that can be found on the lakes at Brockholes, the photograph’s entered this month fit our theme perfectly.

Take a look at your winners

Geese at Seaforth

Jimmy McGrory (13)

The winner of our under 16’s category is … Jimmy McGrory, 13.

From the perfectly framed composition to the facial expression on the inquisitive geese, our voters loved this photograph taken at Seaforth Nature Reserve.

One of our voters explained how they thought this photo has a ‘great composition and makes me wonder what they are looking at so intently’ whilst another added that it is a ‘nice clear image with nice lighting’.

Swan at Brockholes

Steve Grice

The winner of our over 16’s category is … Steve Grice.

This photograph truly highlights this month’s theme of ‘Wetlands and Waterway’s’.  Capturing one of the most well-known inhabitants of our waterway’s, the elegant Swan, this beautiful photograph captures the serenity of the lake within the early morning at Brockholes Nature Reserve, perfectly.

Voters loved the way he captured the misty morning atop of the lake and how clear the reflection of the swan upon the surface of the water is, creating a mirror like effect.

Both these images are incredible, however there can be only one overall winner.

The overall winner is Steve Grice!

A huge thank you to everyone who sent in their wonderful images this month and to everyone who voted. The overall winner will be contacted via email.

Feeling inspired? Why not enter next month's competition!

May's theme is 'New Beginnings'. From the earliest roe deer fawns at Brockholes, to waterfowl with their fluffy rows of chicks, budding flowers starting to bloom, new growth or birds singing in the dawn chorus, there are plenty of wild sights that could fit this month's theme perfectly.
