Photography Competition – August 2024

Photography Competition – August 2024

Andrew Spencer

The results are in for August's photography competition.

From rain to sunshine and even strong winds, we have seen it all in August. But no matter what the weather, our wildlife prevails.

Although later than usual, we have seen dragonflies and damselflies return to our landscapes once more for the summer months. What better way to celebrate this then to make these marvellous creatures the theme for August’s photography competition.

From common darter dragonflies to azure damselflies, the beauty to be captured this month is endless and our entries this month did not disappoint.

The entries we have received this month have been outstanding! However as always there can be only one winner, a task that was extremely difficult this month.

The winner of August’s photography competition is … Sean Davis!

mating Azur Damselflies

Sean Davis

What a fantastic pair of damselflies! The composition and the perfect timing of this image is such a delight to see. Our judges loved everything about this image, from the beautiful colours of these two damselflies to the perfect arched reflection on the water.

Damselfly

Andrew Spencer

Second place goes to Andrew Spencer and this fantastic photograph! The way he has captured the beads of water on this beautifully still damselfly impressed our judges. The clarity and stillness in this photograph really portrays the calmness of the natural world.

Black tailed skimmer

Kath Waterston

Oh, what beautiful eyes you have! This fantastic image, taken by Kath Waterston, comes in third and it is clear to see why our judges loved it so much. This unique close-up perspective of the dragonfly shows the viewer a side to this magnificent creature that is very rarely seen.

A huge thank you to everyone who sent in their wonderful images! To see all the incredible entries we received, please take a look at the album below. The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize.
