North Lancashire Practical Conservation Volunteers
Position details
Commitment:
ThursdayWe carry out practical work on ad hoc Thursdays between 9.30am and 3.30pm on one of seven reserves in North Lancashire (Heysham Nature Reserve, Heysham Moss, Middleton Nature Reserve, Warton Crag, Aughton Woods, Freeman's Pools and Over Kellet Pond).
It is seasonal reserve work, so during spring and summer the tasks will include fence building, wildflower plug planting, surveying, monitoring etc and over the winter we'll focus on scrub management e.g. cutting, dragging, chipping or burning brash.
The work can be physically demanding and the terrain on the reserves can be difficult, but it is very rewarding!
You'll need access to a car, a reasonable level of physical fitness and an eagerness to get stuck in whatever the weather but previous experience isn't needed.
We provide the tools, training and personal protective equipment for the tasks and just ask that you bring your own lunch, wear sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. Travel expenses can be claimed up to £8 per day.
