Volunteering at The Hive

Volunteering

Join the Tribe

Here at The Hive we are always looking for people to join our team. The success of The Hive is down to the active involvement of our volunteers who support all the development and maintenance work that is done behind the scenes throughout the year. With our growing events programme and increased site visits the need for site support has never been greater.

Our practical volunteering programmes are hosted at The Hive every Tuesday and while we have set session times there is no weekly commitment. We’d still be interested to hear from you even if you can only spare one afternoon a month. Tools are provided and work boots if needed.

As well as helping with practical tasks onsite, we also need volunteers to help deliver events. If you like interacting with young children, why not become a Weekend Event Volunteer, supporting staff with session delivery. With an extra pair of hands we can do so much more to help ensure our guests have a wonderful experience.

Other engagement roles centre around welcoming and directing visitors to The Hive and activities in the wider park at weekends/school holidays, manning the entrance kiosk and being a site guide/facilitator making sure people get the best out of their visit. For those who love walking, why not become a Moss Bank Park Guided Walk Leader, sharing your passion for the great outdoors with like minded people.

If you like connecting with others, especially families and have some free time, why not give it a try – It’s great fun, brilliant to be outdoors and encourage families to build closer bonds with nature!

Take a look at the volunteer roles we are actively recruiting for at the moment below.

Meet our volunteers!

Alison - Play Engagement Volunteer

'I encourage children and families to enjoy the outdoors and play games, as well as helping out at various Hive events. The best part of my role is seeing how children and families come to absolutely love being outside. Volunteering for the Lancashire Wildlife Trust has given me a chance to meet like-minded people in an environment I love. It’s so rewarding to be able to offer support and be part of a community doing such positive work!'

Dominic - Play Engagement and Events Volunteer

'I have volunteered at The Hive for the past 4 months and do a bit of everything from axing wood for the camp fire, toasting marshmallows with kids, to constructing props for new events. Being outside and socialising with other volunteers has great health benefits and positively affects my mental wellbeing.'

Paul - Events Volunteer

'I started volunteering after I came to The Hive for my grandsons ‘Tribal Survival Party’. I now volunteer twice a week and am always on campfire duty at least one of those days. I’ve helped out with loads of events and was even given the special privilege of taking part in Xmas activities!

I love interacting with families on such a tranquil site, it is also great to be outdoors. The feedback from families about what the site offers is very rewarding and there’s nothing quite like engaging kids in minibeast hunts.

I feel I have benefitted immeasurably from the exercise, fresh air and socialising with others. The thing I enjoy the most about volunteering at The Hive is the interaction with families, especially seeing how excited they can get when discovering something new.'

Neeraj - Hive Weekend Volunteer

'I have volunteered at The Hive for three months now thanks to a volunteer event I attended at college, and I plan to continue volunteering here as part of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

I have really enjoyed my main front of house role, alongside helping with a variety of other tasks, ranging from lopping branches into drum sticks for the sensory garden, to creating magical reindeer food for Christmas events.

Volunteering at The Hive benefits me greatly because it gets me up on a Sunday morning and outdoors. It really makes me feel like I have done something useful with my time.'

Molly - Front of House Volunteer

'Since starting four months ago I have really enjoyed explaining The Hive trails to families, such as ‘Santas Post Box’, and setting up for events, including making lots of scarecrows over Halloween. My favourite part of the role has to be engaging with children.'
