Leading the way in cycling challenge
With 22 staff involved, the Trust team is taking part in the Love to Ride event, which sees cyclists and teams clocking miles and minutes to create points.
Nationally LWT leads Mattress Online, who, at the halfway stage, were only 400 points behind us. So it’s time to get pedalling.
Myplace Volunteer Co-ordinator and our team leader Rebecca Witcombe said: “We don’t want to be beaten by a mattress company – they are always lying down!”
“We need the team and other officers, members, volunteers and supporters of the Trust to get on their bikes until the end of September.”
Participants only need to log 10 minutes, you can even do it on an indoor bike or record your spin class. Tag the teammate who encouraged you, for an extra 50 points, and let's keep the yellow jersey at LWT.
Rebecca said: “Remember, it doesn't have to be about the most miles, the fastest journey, the lightest bike or riding to work. Just get out there.
“Be one less car on the way to the shops, the fun ride with your children - just get out and ride. It's great for your mental as well as physical health.”
We know many of our team cycle to work on their bikes while others do it for fun. Andy Mather, of the Lancashire Environmental Fund, cycled to Cwmystwyth Arch in Mid Wales after a 15-mile ride from sea level to 1,240 feet.
And cycling is a great way to meet nature, Assistant Reserve Officer Tom Irvine spotted a red deer stag while taking part in an early evening ride in the South Lakes.
Love to Ride said: “Everyone can take part in Cycle September, it’s all about riding your bike and encouraging others to ride too.
“In this fun, friendly competition individuals, businesses, and communities compete to see which can get the most friends, family and co-workers to ride a bike during September.
“If you haven't been on a bike in years, it is the ideal opportunity to rediscover the joy of riding a bike. Already riding? Then together let’s get your friends, family and co-workers enjoying all the benefits of riding a bike.”
