Inscape Interiors of Chorley join as business members

Inscape Interiors of Chorley have joined Lancashire Wildlife Trust as Bronze Members in an effort to help secure a greener local future.

We are over the moon to welcome Inscape Interiors on-board as business members. As part of the construction industry, Inscape Interiors feels it is important to have a positive impact on the environment and support local community organisations that help to achieve this goal.

“We believe that awareness, education and involvement will be the keys to the success of our environmental future,” say Inscape Interiors, “And that working with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust will help us to better inform our staff, customers and suppliers in order to safeguard a more environmentally-friendly future.”

Over the years, Inscape Interiors have implemented a number of projects to improve the company’s environmental performance.

“We were one of the first companies in the UK to install the Dust Control Systems EcoGate system back in 2010. It was installed, with the support of the Carbon Trust, to reduce the carbon footprint of our company. This was important because, at the time, conventional dust extraction systems were ‘always on’ meaning they ran at 100 per cent for the whole of the working shift.”

This clever system uses a new computer/sensor/motor technology to ‘sense’ the amount of dust requiring extraction at each machine point. Then, it dynamically adjusts the overall extraction motor load required in real time. The result? Electrical energy savings of around 40 per cent: a significant improvement over the original extraction system.

Inscape Interiors then chose to install a biomass boiler in August 2014 and were one of the first companies in their industry to do so. The boiler uses wood waste biomass generated from Inscape Interiors’ production process to fully heat the factory and offices. As a result, more than 250 metric tonnes of waste have been saved from landfill – the equivalent of more than 80 builder’s skips! – and no other form of gas or oil-based heating has been used since installation.

Inscape Interiors aren’t stopping there; other environmental initiatives include:

  • Recyclable shrink wraps for packaging products sent to construction sites. This means that all plastic packaging is recovered from site, baled in-house and sent back to recyclers for re-granulation and reuse.
  • All cardboard and paper waste received by or produced by the business is baled in-house and collected by recyclers.
  • Continuous investment in modern technology and machinery with energy efficient drives/motors to reduce electrical consumption and carbon footprint.
  • Continuous investment in modern lighting technologies to move away from traditional halogen, tungsten and fluorescent lighting to more energy efficient LED lighting, using movement sensors wherever possible.
  • Investment in modern delivery vehicles that conform to the latest Euro 5 emissions standards.
