We are excited to announce that Seaforth nature reserve will receive £50,000 as part of the Step up for Wildlife appeal. This crucial funding that generous donors have helped the Trust raise is essential for the upkeep of the reserve and the maintenance of tern rafts and other critical areas that seabirds rely on for survival. However, we still need help to raise an additional £10,000 to reach £60,000; the total amount Seaforth needs to ensure it can carry out the work needed - specifically for the population of common terns, whose numbers tragically plummeted during the recent avian flu outbreak. All funds raised contribute to our overall Step up for Wildlife appeal goal of raising £300,000.
Nestled in the heart of the Liverpool Docks at the mouth of the Mersey, Seaforth with its industrial charm, is an important part of the Mersey Narrows Special Protection Area and a major roosting site for a spectacular variety of waders, seabirds, ducks and small birds.
Seaforth nature reserve is a vital sanctuary, offering the only safe stretch of land along the entire Mersey coastline where vulnerable seabirds can breed and refuel, and home to one per cent of the UK's common terns. The funds from the Step Up for Wildlife appeal will significantly aid in maintaining this unique habitat, but we need an extra £10,000 to fully support the essential conservation efforts and general upkeep of the site.
