Fylde Sand Dunes Guided Walk – FAQs

Q1: Is there parking?
A1: Yes. Pay & display parking is available at North Beach Car Park (FY8 2TR). The car park accepts cash and card payments.

Q2: I'm in the car park, but I don't see anyone here.
A2: Please check you are in the right place. Many people confuse North Prom & North Beach car parks. Check you are NOT at North Prom Car Park (which is close to the pier). You should be at North BEACH car park, which is off Clifton Drive North & close to the coastguard station & Beachcomber café.

Q3: What should I wear?
A3: Suitable clothing for walking outdoors in the predicted weather (don’t forget your coat and waterproofs if it’s going to be wet, and your sun cream/hat if it’s going to be sunny!). Please wear sturdy footwear (e.g. walking boots) for walking along the dunes and beach.

Q4: What should I bring?
A4: Change for the car park and toilets, binoculars (if you have some, if not—don’t worry), a drink, and snacks.

Q5: Are there toilets available?
A5: Toilets are located at North Beach Car Park at the start & end location of the walk. Please use the facilities before the walk starts, as there will not be an opportunity to use the toilet during the walk. The toilets are owned by Danfo & require 40p to access. They accept cash or card payments.

Q6: How long do the walks last?
A6: The walks last approximately 2 hours in a loop from North Beach Car Park. The walk might be slightly shorter if the weather is poor, or if it’s a nice day with lots to see & discuss, we might run slightly over. We recommend putting 3 hours on the car park.

Q7: Are the walks suitable for children?
A7: Yes, of course! Our guided walks are suitable for all ages. If you would like a Coastal Explorers treasure hunt sheet for children to complete along the way, please email apennington@lancswt.org.uk
*Email is only monitored Mon-Fri, 9am - 4pm. Not monitored at weekends.

Q8: Is this event suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility?
A8: Unfortunately, due to the nature of this event (walking up and down sand dunes), it is not suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Please check our other events at www.lancswt.org.uk/events for more accessible options.

Q9: How much are the walks?
A9: The walks are free, but we always greatly appreciate a small donation towards the conservation efforts of the Fylde Sand Dunes Project.

Q10: What if I've booked but can no longer make it?
A10: The success of these guided walks hugely depends on attendance. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your tickets via EventBrite or email apennington@lancswt.org.uk
*Email is only monitored Mon-Fri, 9am - 4pm. Not monitored at weekends.

Q11: The weather forecast is bad. Are you still going ahead with the walk?
A11: Generally, we go ahead with 99% of our walks. If the forecast is so bad that there is a health & safety risk, we will cancel your tickets via EventBrite—please check your email.

Q12: How often are the walks?
A12: Our guided walks take place on the first Sunday of every month between April and December. Please join us throughout the seasons as there’s always something different to see!
